Putnam County Pioneers an EMS Registered Apprenticeship Program

Workforce Connections funds Advance EMS Apprenticeship to Strengthen Emergency Medical Workforce in Our Region

Workforce Connections is proud to help fund apprentices in the new Putnam County Advance EMS Apprenticeship, a new initiative designed to expand career pathways in emergency medical services and help meet the workforce needs of our region. This program, created in partnership with Putnam County Emergency Services and  Apprenticeship TN, offers aspiring Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) the chance to earn wages while gaining hands-on experience and completing the education required for certification. The combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction helps prepare individuals for long-term success in the EMS field.

“Across the Upper Cumberland, one of the greatest needs continually spoken to me is demand for emergency medical service employees,” said Jeremiah Miller, Assistant Director of Workforce Connections. “The Advance EMS Apprenticeship gives job seekers a way to begin their careers in this field while simultaneously helping employers strengthen their workforce needs.”

The apprenticeship is open to individuals who are interested in a career in emergency medical services. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and meet the basic background of having a Basic EMS certification and medical screening requirements. Participants will work with local EMS providers while completing structured training and coursework that leads to Advanced EMT certification. The program is designed to prepare individuals for employment in a growing field with high demand across the region.

This apprenticeship directly supports workforce needs in the Upper Cumberland area, where EMS providers continue to face challenges in staffing and recruitment. The program helps develop local talent and ensures that communities have access to trained emergency responders.
