Kora Sloan is a RIVET Coordinator whose work is rooted in a simple belief: plants, pets, and people are life’s greatest joys—and helping people is where she shines. Each day, she helps individuals explore careers through virtual reality by facilitating training sessions, coordinating community outreach, building partnerships, enrolling participants, and connecting people with workforce resources across RIVET’s 14-county region.
At the heart of Kora’s work is a genuine passion for people. She loves being out in the community, building relationships, and connecting individuals with opportunities they may not have known existed. For her, the most fulfilling part of the job is creating meaningful experiences that leave a lasting impact—moments that help someone see a future they hadn’t imagined for themselves.
RIVET stood out to Kora because of its innovation. She’s energized by using technology—from virtual reality to artificial intelligence—to help people make informed decisions about their future. The most rewarding part, she says, is seeing someone discover a career they never considered and gain confidence in what they’re truly capable of.
Her enthusiasm for RIVET is also personal. When Kora was exploring careers, she thought she wanted to become a veterinary technician. Looking back, she believes a program like RIVET would have helped her realize much sooner that it wasn’t the right fit. That’s exactly what she hopes to offer others: the chance to discover careers they genuinely enjoy before investing years into the wrong path, along with the confidence to pursue opportunities they never thought possible. Above all, she wants every participant to leave feeling more confident and excited about what lies ahead.
Outside of work, Kora’s joys reflect the same warmth she brings to her role. She enjoys tending her garden, spending time with family and friends, and being around animals. Whether she’s nurturing plants, caring for pets, or connecting with people, she’s always looking for ways to make a positive impact in her community—a spirit that carries directly into the work she does every day with RIVET.
