BASF Strengthens Sparta Workforce Through Apprenticeship Investment
A major manufacturing employer in White County is continuing to invest in workforce development as BASF expands its apprenticeship efforts at its Sparta facility through additional workforce funding. The investment will support hands-on training opportunities designed to help employees build skills and advance in advanced manufacturing careers.
BASF’s Sparta location is part of the company’s Performance Materials division and manufactures engineered plastic resins used in injection molding for a wide range of products, including automotive components, industrial equipment, and power tools. These specialty plastic pellets help produce durable molded parts used by manufacturers across multiple industries.
The company launched its Sparta apprenticeship program in 2022 in partnership with Motlow State Community College, providing employees with an earn while you learn pathway that combines paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction. Apprentices receive full-time wages and benefits while completing coursework related to advanced manufacturing and industrial operations.
This new round of apprenticeship funding will help BASF continue developing skilled workers while adding to its workforce in Sparta. Apprenticeship programs allow employers to train workers directly for the technical demands of their operations while giving employees a clear pathway toward long-term career growth.
As manufacturing remains one of the Upper Cumberland’s strongest industries, investments like this help strengthen the local workforce pipeline and ensure regional employers have access to the skilled talent needed for continued growth.
By expanding apprenticeship opportunities, BASF is demonstrating its commitment to both workforce development and long-term economic investment in Sparta and the surrounding region.
